At the AES Hawaiʻi Foundation, our mission is to empower our local communities to create a brighter, more sustainable future. Driven by our company's values and longstanding commitment to community engagement, the AES Hawaiʻi Foundation serves as the heart of AES Hawaiʻi’s social impact giving. The Foundation was formally established in 2021 to build upon AES Hawaiʻi’s decades of giving in Hawaiʻi. We at the AES Hawaiʻi Foundation are committed to improving the lives of local residents and building stronger communities on the islands that we call home.

Mālama ʻĀina: Environmental stewardship & native species conservation
We are dedicated to environmental stewardship and the preservation of native Hawaiian species in every aspect of our work. Our commitment to mālama ʻāina guides us in safeguarding Hawaiʻi's unique natural heritage and nurturing a sustainable, respectful relationship with our precious land, native species, and natural resources

Our people live and work in our local communities and are passionate about improving lives both today and in the future. This is one of the reasons that AES Hawaiʻi created the AES Hawaiʻi Foundation – to help support communities through partnerships with nonprofits that work toward a happier, healthier future for our beautiful island home. We at the AES Hawaiʻi Foundation are passionate about generating positive and long-lasting impact in Hawaiʻi’s communities.

About the AES Hawaiʻi Foundation
The AES Hawaiʻi Foundation serves as the heart of AES Hawaiʻi’s social impact giving. Established in 2021 and structured as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization, the AES Hawaiʻi Foundation makes charitable contributions to nonprofit organizations and community groups in the local communities that AES Hawaiʻi serves, as well as addressing statewide needs. The Foundation is modeled after similar charitable foundations established by The AES Corporation in other states and countries, including the AES Ohio Foundation, AES Dominicana Foundation, AES Panama Foundation and AES Chile Foundation. From October 2022 to October 2023, the AES Hawaiʻi Foundation has distributed nearly $200,000 in charitable donations to Hawaiʻi nonprofit organizations.
Geographic focus areas
The AES Hawaiʻi Foundation supports our neighbors and communities that host our renewable energy projects. These areas include:
Oʻahu
Waiʻanae, Kahuku & Koʻolauloa, Central Oʻahu, Kapolei
Kauaʻi
West & South Kauaʻi
Hawaiʻi Island
Waikōloa
Maui
Central & West Maui
While preference is given to nonprofit organizations serving these areas, we also consider awarding grants outside of these communities, such as to statewide entities.
